Japanese Governemt
Started by title this post as Japanese, the on the second thought, it is not all Japanese citizen's fault that the conflict between China and Japan accelerated for the past years.
Japan's intention of holding a permanent seat in the UN security council triggered the nation wide protest, leading to damages to Japanese properties and boycotte to Japanese products. Japan sent its Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura to Beijing demanding compensation and apology. This demand was flatly refused by the Chinese counterpart Li Zhaoxing. I wasn't surprised that the Japanese goverment took the guts to have this idea of Compensation, since it is always barbarian and can't be reasoned with common sense.
I completely agree with Li Zhaoxing's remark that the demonstrations were the result of Japan's view of its wartime atrocities and its stand on Taiwan and human rights. For those who do not agree with me, just take a look at the European nations' sentiment for German. It's been more than half a century since the German surrendered, and German government showed sincere remorse in various occassions, paid their share of compensation, and is very alert of the new neo-nazi development. And they are still not forgiven, or well liked. I know a guy from Netherland on my defense.
Now take a look at Japan. In this morning's CBC radios show, the host invited two experts on Sino-Japan relationship, one of them is from Japan judging by his name. When asked about the Nanjing Massacre, he said the Japanese textbook didn't mention the amount of Chinese civilians murdered because the number is still in dispute. Hello, just give a approximate number then, lets be conservative and just say Hundreds of millions? What make me so mad I wanted to swear was that he told the host that the massacre is different from German's genocide of Jews and is the same as what the US troops is doing in Iraq: eliminate whoever post a threat to the army. But I would suggest this so called expert to do some research on UN's effort in preventing this Incident as was mentioned in the Japanese textbook. Even the UN peace zone couldn't provide safety to the defenseless civilians. Luckily the other professor took a more objective view that eventually calmed my anger.
I do not mean that I agree with the protestors' violence, but the surpressed emotion has to be released. I wish the Chinese could take a more mature approach as the Korean does, such as working on being independant on Japanese products, promoting patriotism instead of nationalism.
Japan has never stopped provoking China and Korean on territorial and WWII issues. It is unimaginable if they really become a permanent menber in the security council, since they never recognize the sickly aggressive side of their nation. Considering Japan's current foreign policies, one can't associate this nation with the word Peace.
