Justification of the Snobbish Rich

Working in a bank gives me access to so much personal financial information that leads me to further understanding of the difficulties of life, and also the necessity of self control, which I do not have.

The new town I am transferred to after 6 months of training is an industrial town. Before I come here I was told people here are much more friendly, turns out it is very true, and partly, as I now realize with a little discomfort of the revelation, that it is because there are much more lower income people. Those with better finaical status seems to be more snobbish, but the reason behind that is that they know their rights and they demand to have what it takes to better meet their needs.

I ordered Chinese takeout from Ming's. As I stepped out of the restaurant, a woman in her later 50s stopped me and asked me for some cash for food as she wipes the mucus off her nose. I took out 5 dollars out of my wallet and handed to her. She asked if she could have more to have some Chinese food. I was quite taken by surprise, because this begger is apparantly the chooser, who is much more greedy than I could imagine. Later I told this to Alex and he said she always walks around that area begging for money.

Yesterday, a Sunny warm sunday, as I was walking my bike toward the meter, a middle aged woman went up to a young girl who was smoking outside of the mall with her friend, and asked for a cigarrete. Two minuites later, a talk middle aged man who does not seem to have any disabilities came to me and asked for money. I told him that I was just going to the gym and did not carry any on me, thinking why don't you go get a job loser.

Also, what disappoints me quite a lot here is that there is no Starbucks or the Second Cup or the Coffee Company where I can take a sip of coffee or tea, have some dissert and sit on a nice chair to read a book in a comforting none fast-food-restaurant kind of environment, looking at the passersbys through the window. However there are three Tim Horton on the less than 500 meters long King Street, not that their food aren't any good.

Am I turning into a Snob myself, me, earning meagre income barely cover our expnses?? But I don't really care, because I am making a different for my life, and paying for those warefare people's housing, dental and health care etc, organizing the Bingo game and auction to help raising funds for cancer treatment equipments for the local hospital.
